Neuromotion Physiotherapy is a physiotherapy clinic that is uniquely positioned to treat people with neurological impairments.
MS is an autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system causing a variety of symptoms such as problems with bladder control, speech and vision, numbness, loss of muscle control, weakness, problems with muscle coordination, tremors, and depression. MS affects around 50,000 Canadians and approximately 3 persons a day are diagnosed with MS each day, making it the most prevalent neurological disease in young adults in Canada.
The goal of physiotherapy for MS is to improve and/or maintain function and prevent deconditioning, muscle weakness from decreased mobility, and contractures secondary to spasticity. A physiotherapist can provide education and guidance to promote good health, reduce fatigue, and optimize function through range of motion, strengthening exercises and gait training. The Lokomat machine can also be a useful adjunct to therapy to help with mobility issues secondary to MS.
